Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino advocated about the importance of the Mariposa Port of Entry and continued infrastructure investment at a Transportation Roundtable Discussion with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx in Tucson on Wednesday, September 11, 2013.
?The Mariposa port is a model port that is the economic hub for the State of Arizona,? said Mayor Garino. ?I conveyed the importance of promoting political alignment and why the Nogales ports of entry are critical not just for the State, but for our city as well.?
The Secretary of Transportation asked to meet with a select group of political leaders from the States of Arizona and Sonora, other state representatives, private organization owners, and other business leaders on various transportation issues affecting the state of Arizona.
?Being able to participate in meetings such as these where I can voice my thoughts and concerns on transportation infrastructure and improvements for the City of Nogales is very important,? said Mayor Garino.
Some of the issues discussed in the meeting involved federal government revenue sources, comprehensive improvement plans, and the effects of government sequestration on transportation resources.
The Office of the U.S. Secretary of Transportation oversees the formulation of national transportation policy and promotes intermodal transportation. Other responsibilities include implementation of international transportation agreements and issuance of regulations to prevent alcohol and illegal drug misuse in transportation systems and preparing transportation legislation
