Apple Inc. may get a new opportunity in court to press allegations that Google Inc.?s Motorola Mobility unlawfully copied patented iPhone technology.
A U.S. appeals court, hearing oral arguments Wednesday, suggested that an influential Chicago-based federal judge went too far last year in throwing out Apple?s lawsuit. The judge, Richard Posner, made waves in June 2012 when he tossed both Apple and Motorola out of court.
The phone makers had lodged dueling patent infringement claims against each other, seeking monetary damages and court injunctions to block the sale of infringing rival smartphones.
Apple alleged Motorola built Android-based devices that copied patented iPhone features, including touchscreen technology. Motorola charged Apple with infringing its patents that were included in industry standards for mobile communications. . . . .
