NHL reaches agreement
The National Hockey League (NHL) and union representing its locked-out players reached agreement on drug testing and player safety on Friday, but did not address the core economic issues standing in the way of a new labor deal. ?We?re taking baby steps right now.? Mathieu Schneider, a special assistant to the NHL Players Association?s executive director, told reporters in New York. ?We are not really discussing anything that has to do with the core economics,? he said. The NHL locked out its players on Sept. 16 when the previous labor deal expired with the two sides at odds over how to divide a US$3.3 billion revenue pie. The lockout, which is the NHL?s fourth work stoppage in 20 years, has already forced the league to cancel its entire preseason schedule.

Twins drop Nishioka
Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka was released on Friday by the Minnesota Twins after a disappointing year with one season remaining on his Major League Baseball contract. The 28-year-old Osaka native was dropped for a US$250,000 buyout to avoid playing him US$3 million next season in the final year of a deal signed in 2010. Nishioka, who helped Japan win the 2006 World Baseball Classic, suffered a broken leg in a collision with New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher after playing only 68 games in the 2011 season. Nishioka, who had batted .226 with 19 runs batted in and 14 runs scored before the injury, went hitless in three at-bats for the Twins this season and spent most of the season with their top developmental team, hitting .258 with two home runs and 34 runs batted in over 101 games.

Children?s coach fired
The coach of a children?s gridiron team in suburban Los Angeles and the league president have been suspended after allegations in the Orange County Register by parents of a bounty scheme. The bounty system, allegedly used last season to provide payments to 10-year-olds and 11-year-olds for deliberately injuring opponents, follows a similar scheme that led to National Football League bans this year for the New Orleans Saints. The report says parents claim coach Darren Crawford and an assistant offered players on the Red Cobras of the Tustin (California) Junior Pee Wee league cash for hard hits that knocked football rivals out of playoff games. One player suffered a mild concussion as a result of such a hit. National Pop Warner officials said that Crawford and Pat Galentine, who serves as president of the Tustin league, have been suspended until an investigation into the claims has been conducted.

Kane to play in KHL
Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane has reached a deal to play for Dinamo Minsk of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for the duration of the National Hockey League (NHL) lockout. Kane became the first Canadian player to sign with a KHL team even as NHL officials and players union leaders renewed talks in hopes of saving a full NHL season in the wake of club owners locking out players almost two weeks ago. The Belarus club announced the agreement on Friday, exactly 40 years to the day after Canada defeated the Soviet Union in ice hockey?s legendary Summit Series. Kane scored 30 goals for the Jets last season and signed a six-year NHL contract extension worth US$31.5 million just before the lockout began.

The $50 million investment is expected to generate 60 new jobs.
?We celebrate Drive Automotive?s decision to invest $50 million and create 60 new jobs. South Carolina continues to show that it is the right place to do business. Announcements like this one show we are doing the right things to help companies prosper and grow,? said Gov. Nikki Haley.
Drive Automotive Industries of America, a manufacturing division of Cosma International, which is an operating unit of Magna International Inc., will expand its manufacturing facility located on Moon Acres Road in Piedmont. The expansion will add approximately 150,000 square feet to the size of the existing facility.
?Given the competitive nature of obtaining funding for projects, we at the Drive facility are very appreciative of the support of Greenville County Council and the Governor?s Office,? said Craig Lane, general manager of Drive Automotive. ?We truly believe it is a win for everyone.?
Drive Automotive manufactures automotive body panels and assembles body systems using state-of-the-art equipment such as multi-ton hydraulic presses and advanced robotic systems. This expansion will support a growing customer base among the major automotive and heavy truck manufacturers.
Since January 2011, South Carolina has recruited more than $4.4 billion in capital investment and more than 6,800 jobs in the automotive-related sector.
?We continue to build on our success in the automotive club. Drive Automotive?s announcement is another indication that South Carolina?s automotive industry, and manufacturing sector as a whole, continues to create wealth and new jobs,? said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
Drive Automotive began production at its Greenville facility in 1994. The expansion is expected to be complete by the third quarter of 2013.
?Greenville County is committed to reducing unemployment and increasing per capita income in Greenville County, and Drive Automotive is a good example of a good quality employer with innovative business practices that fits nicely into our local economy,? said H.G. ?Butch? Kirven, director of the Greenville Area Development Corporation and chairman of Greenville County Council.? ?We are very pleased that Drive Automotive has selected Greenville for this important new investment and business expansion.?
?Drive Automotive?s expansion is a vote of confidence in the competitiveness, quality and depth of the Upstate?s workforce when it comes to world-class manufacturing,? said Hal Johnson, president and CEO of the Upstate SC Alliance.
The company will begin hiring for the new positions in 2014. Anyone interested in job opportunities with the company can watch for job postings on the Magna website at www.magna.com/careers.

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) ? During what appeared to be an attempted late-night burglary, a man fatally shot a masked teenager in self-defense outside his neighbor's house and then discovered it was his son, state police said.
Spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said Friday that police are trying to determine if the gun used by Jeffrey Giuliano, the father, was registered. It will be at least a week before the probe is done, he said.
Police said 15-year-old Tyler Giuliano was shot at about 1 a.m. Thursday in New Fairfield, a town along the New York line just north of Danbury.
A woman who was alone in the home believed someone was breaking in and called the teen's father, who lives next door, state police said. The father grabbed a gun and went outside to investigate, troopers said.
The father confronted someone wearing a black ski mask and black clothing and then fired his gun when the person went at him with a shiny weapon in his hand, police said.
When police officers arrived, the teen was lying in the driveway of the woman's home with gunshot wounds and the father was sitting on the grass. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
"All in all it's a tragedy," Vance said.
The teen's father, Jeffrey Giuliano, a fifth-grade teacher in town, hasn't returned a message seeking comment on what happened.
The teenager was a student at New Fairfield High School, a short walk from the neighborhood where he was killed.
Superintendent of Schools Alicia Roy sent parents an email about what happened, The News-Times of Danbury reported.
"Our district has experienced a tragedy that has affected us deeply," she wrote, adding that students weren't told of the killing because all the facts weren't clear.
No charges have been filed. An autopsy on the boy is planned.

According to the Remodeling Activity Indicator (RAI) devised by Harvard?s Joint Center for Housing Studies, homeowners continued to invest in their properties by spending $149.5 billion on renovation during 2011.
For many homeowners , home improvement is vital as they plan to age in place, so they are trying to create ground floor bedrooms, larger bathrooms, and accessible countertops. For otherhome owners adding a room addition is essential as the family simply outgrows its present home size.
Another type of owners include those for whom investing in their homes is a way not only to improve their comfort and safety , but also their ability to create wealth and achieve financial security as home improvement is known to increase the property value. While these homeowners renovate strictly to add value to their homes or make them more marketable, many of today?s homeowners are merely seeking comfort and functionality , a place to relax and live ; a safe serenity.
As a result of current tendencies in the real estate market, more and more house owners decide to renovate and add size to their existing residence instead of getting into the process of relocating to a new residence.
?When we moved in ten years ago as a young couple, we couldn?t spend the money for a large three bedroom house we always dreamt about,? says Jack Merritt from Studio City, CA. ?Instead we went for a more compact two bedroom property. Despite its size, it had a large backyard, a fireplace, and adequate space to raise our newborn baby. Ten years later, our infant has become a big kid and we essentially felt we needed more room. At first we though to merely move to a larger house but this is a popular neighborhood and prices are sky-rocketing, so we made a decision to simply add a bedroom to our home. After screening several local contractors we found an offer to be the very best value and because from day one we were impressed by their efficiency and experience. Eloise Fernadez says, ?Indeed, we were as very pleased with the result as we were with the process. The contractor we picked and his team were experienced and well-mannered. They were understanding of our privacy while working through our day to day routine and most important, we had our room addition on time and within our remodeling budget.?
Today?s real estate markets are full of aging homes where returns on investment are large and generally exceed the prices of home improvements. Of course, some kinds of improvements do far better in certain places. For instance, building a wood deck in Santa Monica, Calif., or Hawaii is a solid investment
Another significant factor is the type of improvement, as some improvements are more likely to give your residence more appeal and help it sell faster. High-end kitchens and luxurious master bedrooms tend to be real selling promoters pretty much anyplace around the country.
Many home remodeling project trends are determined by functionality and comfort . These types of factors can be often seen in bathroom and kitchen remodeling projects with high tech gadgets and designer finishes. The kitchen is beginning to change and develop as homeowner preferences in kitchens include computerized, commercial-look stainless-steel appliances, sculptural stove hoods, designer dishwashers, and custom countertops, to name a few.
Bathrooms are becoming a luxurious retreat with extra-large ?rain? shower heads, body-spray showers, steam showers, solid surface shower walls, and heated tile floors.

Something happens to some kids when they hit their teens. They say it?s something to do with their hormones but all I know is that some teenagers have mood swings that can be hard to deal with. Take my word for it, I was one of those moody teenagers, and I remember my parents struggling with buying Christmas gifts for me and my brother. Every single year.
I just hit my twenties, so I thought I would write down this little list of ideas to help you during your research into what impresses a teenager at Christmas.
Nearly all teenagers like popular music so a voucher could do for you, or if you are feeling really brave, buying an actual album would be a good safe bet. If you are going down the voucher route there are a number of different websites that can make your life easier.
Apple?s iTunes is the big daddy of music retailing and there are easy ways to buy gift vouchers from their website; you can get a voucher emailed to your intended recipient or you can print one off yourself, or you can even choose a predesigned card and voucher to be sent to your address. You can also buy films, applications and books in the same way. The same can be done through retailers like amazon and hmv, so shop around and see what deals are there to be found.
If the teenager you are spoiling has a car then find out if it?s covered for breakdown recovery. This is a great gift idea as most teens have very old cars that are more susceptible to break-downs.? If your teenager doesn?t have a car then what about a contribution to driving lessons or even a contribution to a car fund!
This is getting to the more expensive end of the scale but you can get a driving experience for your moody teen in a Lamborghini for as little as $89. The only real restrictions are that they must be under 6?6? and not be over 252lbs, which should make it open to most teens, I hope!
You could also look at a flying lesson. These also start at about $77 for an hour and the age restriction is as low as 12 years old. Flying can really help confidence and give your moody teen some sense of achievement?plus, sunglasses are recommended all year round, so your teen can look cool too!
A subscription used to mean a copy of ?Just 17? delivered to your door for a year, however subscriptions have moved on and now you can buy a number of different services that will appeal to your teenager. The first big leap in subscriptions is mobile phone top ups and subscriptions. If you are a Vodafone subscriber you can add a certain amount each month to another account you are controlling. You can also top up data usage if your teenager has a tablet or dongle for wireless internet access. Anyone who gives more access to the internet is going to be held aloft like a God in any teenager?s eyes. If you have a moody teenager who is a console game player it is possible to pay for their online connection subscription, which allows them to play online games. Or you could look at buying a subscription to a film database, like LoveFilm or NetFlix, starting at $7 per month.
What about an iPod Shuffle for $52? Most teenagers will already have a phone and a laptop, so what about buying something to complement their gadgetry? You can buy phone cases and laptop covers, starting at $13 or you could buy some headphones for your moody teenager. If you really wanted to be helpful and see into the future, you could buy gadget insurance for you teenager, but I can imagine the teenagers face when on Christmas morning they open a card with an insurance document in it?.
Hopefully this article has given you some ideas of what to buy your moody teenager. They are growing so quickly and they cannot control some of their mood swings so forgive their mistakes and brighten their day as they try and deal with all those mixed emotions.
It?s tough to be a teen.

The most fascinating aspect of the movie is why the missing boy's family believed the imposter's story.
You may begin to wonder if you aren't being conned by the movie yourself.
Beverly Dollarhide, Nicholas's mother, says of the period after her son's disappearance, "My main goal in life at that time was not to think." Apparently, the filmmakers have taken a cue from her.
Layton's dazzling film is an exciting, edge-of-your-seat experience superior to any Hollywood mystery you're likely to see for a long time.
"The Imposter" becomes more than just a missing-persons drama. It hints at something much darker: a real-life horror story, the full truth of which may never be known.
This is one creepy mystery.
If you are a fan of true crime stories or the workings of the human mind, The Imposter will blow you away.
... both interesting and repellent.
An unnerving experience and a brilliant piece of documentary filmmaking that peels back the layers on one of the most perplexing stories
Layton layers "The Imposter" with powerful images in the dramatic re-creations, as well as a brooding soundscape and a concise pacing that distributes its information with the reserve of a good mystery writer.
"The Imposter" may be the first movie since "Penn and Teller Get Killed" whose title may need its own spoiler alert.
Every bit as engaging as it is well-shot, it proves once more that truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction.
A mixture of documentary, mystery and thriller, which recounts an astonishing true story that gets more outrageous with each revelation
Strange and intriguing, searching for that elusive essence known as 'the perfect truth.'
Rather like watching a magician pulling off a trick which your eyes cannot see, The Imposter offers its own strange kind of magic.
The story is astonishing enough on its own, and The Imposter succeeds in enhancing its immediacy and intensity.
As his story unfolds, one gets the uncomfortable sensation that a joke is being played. But on whom?
One of the year's most provocative pictures.
Incredibly well-made and with a story you won't forget, "The Imposter" is one of the better docs of the season.
The Imposter emerges as a brilliantly slippery film that demands brain-stretching consideration. Astonishing, indeed.
It's an astounding story, truly, and Bourdin is the most chillingly sympathetic sociopath: frank, remorseless, matter-of-fact.
British director Bart Layton has only slightly fictionalised this extraordinary story for his documentary, which is told more as a thriller than a statement of hard fact.
"The Imposter" is one of the best films of the year.
Not only is the story riveting, but the film explores huge issues that really get under our skin

Home ? Blog ? Featured ? Edmonds man realizes dream of starting online radio station
In June 2011, Edmonds resident Michael Raley walked away from a successful career in radio advertising, with one mission in mind: to build a radio station of his own.
But Raley wasn?t looking to start just any station. He was tired of commercial radio?s lack of creativity ? both in terms of the music it played and the advertising it ran. He wanted a station that supported and celebrated local music, musicians and businesses. And he wanted to make the broadcasts available on a digital platform.
This week, Raley?s vision become a reality with the official launch of Jet City Stream. The station?s focus is on local music, which includes finding and featuring local bands.? Since April, when the station first went ?on the air? from its headquarters in Seattle?s Georgetown neighborhood, Jet City staff have been working to build their brand at various community music events, participating in the Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot and the Crooked Chinook Music Festival, among others. Jet City has also hosted several smaller events at its studio location inside the former Rainier Brewery-turned-Tully?s-Coffee headquarters on Airport Way South.
The most important room in the Jet City studio suite is probably the server room, complete with a 10.5 mm fiber optic cable ? ?the biggest you can get,? Raley said. ?We wanted to push the audio because EQ (equalization) on the Internet is average at best. So what we did was we created two streams for one fully-equalized path. When you listen to it online, it balances out highs and lows. You can hear total separation in what we do. ?
In addition, the station has a functional air studio where they have held Jet City Stream Sessions with local bands including Reignwolf, Walking Papers, Father John Misty and Fly Moon Royalty.
The station also plans to feature famous names as they come through the Puget Sound region for a concert. ?Our goal is to get those bands to come down to the station, do an acoustic or electric set with us and leave us with those gems ? and then we can play those songs for eternity because they were recorded with us,? Raley said.
He envisions eventually expanding the concept to 25 cities nationwide, creating an online network of Internet stations, each with the same focus on local music and community events.
Part of what drives the 50-year-old Raley is his memories of just how good radio used to be during his childhood and teen years, when a station would play a diverse mix? of music ? everything from Glen Campbell and Elvis Presley to Roberta Flack and Queen.? Today, Raley noted, ?there are five major (music) labels and they control 50 major bands, so they fund those bands and that?s it.? As a result, many great bands and their music are left in the collective dust.
?We just wanted to take the great things radio did and combine it with today?s technology of music discovery,? he said.
Most people in the Internet radio business are ?either doing it in their basement in some bad audio way or they are doing Pandora style, which is not radio ? it?s just an iPod online where you can click a song,? Raley said. ?It?s not radio DJs. It doesn?t have localism.?
Raley himself is a former Edmonds restaurant manager ? he worked at Anthony?s Home Port from 1985-1995? who has been in love with music since he started playing guitar in a rock band at age 16.
After encouragement from an acquaintance, he moved into radio sales at age 37, starting with KISS-FM and eventually ending up in Los Angeles before moving back to Edmonds and a sales job with Seattle-based Clear Channel.
However, he grew tired of the type of advertising that was being aired and added that he ?felt that the best music in the world wasn?t getting played on the radio,? due to what he called ?the corporate rule of record labels.?
As he began building his new station, Raley?s top two priorities were his staff? ? ?finding the best people in Seattle? ?? and also securing what he described as ?an iconic location: a place where a band could bring their record down and see the DJs and meet them.?
His success so far is reflected in both the choice of the station?s home ? the hip yet comfortable former Rainier Brewery office suite? ? and his equally impressive hires: Shawn Stewart of 103.7 The Mountain fame is Jet City Stream?s content director and is on the air fron 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Marco Collins, who broadcasts from 3-7 p.m., is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and best known as the DJ and Music Director at Seattle?s 107.7? ?The End? during the 1990?s grunge era. Running the station?s marketing is Joe Hammill, former ?The End? promotions director.? And Jet City?s vice president of programming is Becky Brenner, who was program director at KMPS for 16 years.
The well-known names continue as part of this week?s official Jet City Stream launch. When seeing definite resolve with payday loans online to prompt economic problem, inhabitants often neglect huge rate which yearly can get four hundred percent, and they are easy get caught with huge indebtedness induced by proposed payday loans.
Generally, with the attempt to render large fines for these proposals, debtors are dependable to take another credit to own leastways some funds to have both ends meet and not to redeem huge penalties for respite of pay. One recent trial sets up that people who applied for payday loans nearly duplicated their chances of falling under smash. Such families? big failure danger exists also if compared to households with cognate monetary status who abandoned payday loan.
Nonetheless lenders of payday loan say that their services can contest in profitability with overrun which people can experience when recovering all cash from their bank accounts in the chance of extreme necessity; creditors show that their proposals are not that disturbing to public with permanent salary. One doesn?t supersede another, yet all terms need to be thought over when making decision about calling for payday loans. Conditions of fiscal troubles should not influence individuals greatly, they should perennially mind that there is no context without resolve, and they need to discover the most appropriate decision, and not to endeavor doubtful effect.
The overspendings can as well enlarge with time, if to try determining it with payday loans. This appears owing to the issue, that when the day to repay payday loans comes, in case of default by person, needed money to cover the credit will be electronically withdrawn from checking account, which might be already null. There are different conditions of available services and they should be pondered both in long and short outlook.
A 36 % interest rate limit for high-rate payday loans liquidates the ravenous habit of charging four hundred percent for payday loans to working people and will lower the bank penalties unnecessarily assessed due to bad accommodation. There are definite priority for forces workers and their families, in the issue these families in many areas over the country experience less tension from the bank in case of monetary support destitution. Such people protect the inhabitants and require the security for themselves as well.
Coming across many choices of finance lending, individuals should comprehend that payday loans agents attempt to shun different reforms which import to repay much bigger fees which is troublesome for people with unstable earnings. If to consider effectiveness, then rate rage is the best in this phase.

Track or FAIL!
Ok, maybe that sounds a bit harsh.
Too bad? that?s the point.
Let me break down the problem with most folks that go about building a business online.
They know full well nearly ever method, trick, and approach to making money with a website.
Yet, for whatever reason they get lazy and start rationalizing to themselves that it?s no big deal if they skip over a few details.
Make no mistake, if you skip this portion of the series you will not succeed.
Following up on our Traffic Master Series?we?re going to look at tracking your paid advertising efforts.
I will try to make this quick and painless.
It is after all a very simple process, but again please don?t assume it?s simplicity is related to it?s level of it?s importance.
Conversion numbers are the most important numbers to learn so we?ll start there? I can tell right away what level of experience a person has based simply on their understanding of realistic conversion numbers.
Conversions
This represent the number of people that took an action, out of the collective possible number of actions. ?They are expressed as a percentage, and determined by dividing two components. ?They are also measured over some period of time.
There are also many points of conversion depending on your desired action or the point in the process. ?It could be opt-in, one time offer, main sales letter, survey form, etc.
For now let?s look at how to find opt-in conversion percentage.
This is simply the total number of ?people?that opt into your list?divided by the total number of unique visitors.
For example, if you had 20 signups?in one day, and 70 unique visitors?over that same time period you would have 29% opt in conversions, or 20/70 = 0.285.
Got it?
While I?ve seen as high as 80% signup rates, it?s much more common to get generic traffic to convert at 20-40% opt-in.
In other words, you can expect to lose well over half your paid traffic to a signup form. ?These are so important to improve as it can generate exponential sales from small improvements.
Next and probably the most important number to consider is the sales conversions.
Sadly, with poor traffic or bad sales offers as little as 1% of traffic may convert to sales. ?If you have particularly bad sales conversion, adding an opt-in in front of the offer might be enough to kill nearly all possible sales!
Note:
With each step in a conversion process or system (like we reviewed in part 3) you are starting with less and less visitors.
It?s important to keep your best converting offers as close the maximum volume of traffic as possible.
As a refresher, recall that a higher priced back end offer down the line if converting well enough can still out-earn a low priced front end offer. ?This is why it?s so important to keep track of conversions at each step of the process.
Simply re-arranging your offers or removing an opt-in step may significantly improve conversions and total sales.
How do we do keep track of tracking?
First of all, many auto-responder accounts have built in conversion tracking. ?Check your personal responder to verify and get you opt-in numbers.
Next, one of the simplest ways to track your tracking?. is to use a redirect link from your traffic source.
There are countless link shorteners and redirect services that will track the amount of clicks to a link, such as Budurl. ?I?ll leave it to you to do a search for your favorite.
ALWAYS use one of these when sending paid traffic.
Next, take a backup step and install a page tracking analytic services such as Google Analytics or Get Clicky.
With these two utilities you can determine relatively accurately how many unique visitors came through to that page or clicked that link in any given period of time.
Sales of course are even easier to track, and much more fun?
Simply login to your merchant or affiliate account and pull up the sales data!
Once you have your sales data, simply measure up against your click data over the same time period. ?Do the math and compare your cost vs conversion.
For example, if you got 1,000 visitors that converted at 10% and you earned $25 per sale, you?d have $250o.
That represent $2.5 per visitor. ?$2,500 / 1,000
If that same traffic only cost $1.5 per visitor to get, congrats you?re in profit! ?Rinse, repeat, and scale!
In fact, even a profit of $1 is profit, and limited only by the size of your market and advertising source.
Conclusion
So that was simple right?
It?s so critical to your success. ?Hopefully by now you can see why you MUST start tracking all your efforts.
Practice those calculations and experiment a little with higher conversion numbers. ?Watch how big of a difference they can make!
Also, take some of the sample systems I provided and plugin your own conversion numbers at each stage. ?Work out the math and see how it can affect the total revenue and visitor numbers.
Do this and you?re well on your way to becoming a seasoned veteran, ready to bust open your traffic to new levels!
Next up, the last part of the series where we dig into some ad sources you can get started on right away!
Enjoy,
Comments welcome?

The current record for world's highest skydive stands at 102,800 feet, set in 1960 by US Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger.

If all goes according to plan, a helium-filled balloon will lift off from Roswell, N.M., on Oct. 8 and carry?Felix Baumgartner's custom-built capsule to an altitude of 120,000 feet (36,576 meters). The daredevil will then step out of the capsule into the void, breaking a skydiving record that has stood for 52 years.
Baumgartner's 2,900-pound (1,315 kilograms) capsule was damaged in a hard landing during a July 25 practice run from 97,146 feet (29,610 m), forcing a delay while repairs were made. But on Monday (Sept. 24), officials with Red Bull Stratos ? the name of Baumgartner's mission ? declared the capsule fit for launch and set Oct. 8 as the target date for the skydiver's "space jump."
The all-clear came as welcome news to Baumgartner, who is itching to go.
"I feel like a tiger in a cage waiting to get out," the 43-year-old skydiver said in a statement.
The current record for world's highest skydive stands at 102,800 feet (31,333 m). It was set in 1960 by U.S. Air Force Captain Joe Kittinger, who serves as an adviser for Baumgartner's mission. [Most Extreme Human Spaceflight Records]
If Baumgartner succeeds on Oct. 8, he will break not only that mark but also the?sound barrier, becoming the first skydiver ever to fall at supersonic speeds, Red Bull Stratos officials said. During the July 25 jump, Baumgartner's top freefall speed was 537 mph (864 kph) ? about as fast as a commercial airliner.
On Oct. 8, Baumgartner hopes to etch his names in the record books for highest skydive, fastest freefall, longest freefall and highest manned balloon flight. But his mission could have scientific value as well, collecting data that could help enable high-altitude escapes from spacecraft, mission officials said.
Red Bull Stratos describes the Oct. 8 attempt as a jump from the edge of space. But space is generally considered to begin at an altitude of 62 miles, or 327,000 feet.
The team is cautiously optimistic that the weather will cooperate on Oct. 8.
"Early fall in New Mexico is one of the best times of the year to launch stratospheric balloons," mission meteorologist Don Day said.
Baumgartner and his team had originally hoped to attempt the record jump in 2010, but they were delayed by a legal challenge that claimed the idea of the dive was suggested to Red Bull by California promoter Daniel Hogan. That lawsuit has been settled out of court, and the mission is moving forward.

Physical therapists are not like you and me. They have super powers and quirky ways of seeing the world. Let me explain.
One of their highest super powers is X-Ray vision. When Janet Carscadden looks at her patients, she sees beyond the surface. Certainly she is looking at the skeleton, but she also sees so much more ? like behavioral patterns or even deeply held psychological blocks to health.
No. She does not have a crystal ball and the table will not magically levitate. She just has a deep understanding of the human body ? you might even say she is preoccupied by it. It informs the way she sees things.
Her peers at Evolution share this vision. Here is a somewhat less mystical example:? I met the other day with the Physical Therapists to discuss National Physical Therapy month and the relationship between Physical Therapy and yoga. Andrea Trombley and Alison Aiken joined Janet and I in a talk that started with some fun conversation about the new television series ?The Kennedys?.
I immediately thought about Marilyn Monroe and Jackie, but Andrea thought about JFK?s back. She? said ?I don?t care that they are talking about the Bay of Pigs, that guy was wearing a corset!? (A medical corset is a kind of girdle used to control pelvic stability and temporarily ease back pain). ?I cannot believe how much medication he took for back pain,? added Alison. The conversation turned toward other PT-related television viewing. ?We watch E.R. The guy is holding the cane in the wrong hand!?
Here?s the other super power these women share: the mind-body connection. This is the power of yoga. The Physical Therapists at Evolution all prescribe yoga in their therapy exercises. This is unique.
Their therapy sessions often result in recommended behavioral modifications and custom yoga programs specifically tailored to resolve pain and improve mobility and flexibility.
Most Physical Therapists try to accomplish this with exercise alone. Not here. In their years of experience, Janet, Andrea and Alison find that their patients are much more likely to participate in their own healing when their therapy programs include yoga.
Greater participation means greater health for patients. It?s that simple. That?s the magic of Physical Therapy at Evolution.

Saturday, September 15, Cash Mob Fullerton and Branding Personality held a Cash Mob at Carpe Diem Experience in Downtown Fullerton, California, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce in Fullerton.
What is a Cash Mob?
Cash Mobs were created to help local businesses get new customers, celebrate loyal customers, and generate money to help local economies. Once a business is chosen, the cash mob is advertised, usually through social media, email, and word of mouth. On the day of the cash mob, people show up and commit to purchasing $20 or more of products. Cash Mobs are a way for the community to come together, help a local business, and have fun and meet new people!
Carpe Diem Experience in Downtown Fullerton is a unique art, clothing, jewelry, home d?cor, and bridal store. Artology at Carpe Diem hosts workshops where they encourage participants to escape from their daily routines and create personalized art.
Carpe Diem also hosts private parties for groups celebrating birthdays, bridal showers, and friendship.
On Saturday, local shoppers ?mobbed? Carpe Diem. Shoppers experimented with jewelry, tried on resort wear, saw how fascinators are made, and participated in an Artology workshop. Mobbers got a preview of tasty treats from Le Creperie, a European pastry caf? set to open soon. Owners of Le Creperie served lemon water, orange crepes, and an assortment of Romanian cakes.
An Offer You Can?t Refuse
Cash Mobs help bring awareness about local businesses who may not have the means to buy large ad campaigns across different media. Through grassroots coordination, the ensuing social media campaign, and an enthusiastic Cash Mob, a local company can promote itself without having to spend large amounts of money. Cash Mobs have become a part of local communities all over the United States, encouraged by the commitment of organizers and participation of ?mobbers? all over the country.
Have you been part of a Cash Mob? How did you hear about it and what was your experience?
